Comment on That’s All Folks! Iris V1 Shutdown on June 30th. by nomo bo https://irisusers.com/thats-folks-v1-shutdown-june-30th/#comment-49 Wed, 22 Jun 2016 03:50:37 +0000 http://irisusers.com/?p=757#comment-49 I am a reasonably satisfied 1st-Gen IRIS customer, and a subscriber to IRIS Premium Service.

I have just taken delivery of (but not yet installed) a 2nd Gen Hub.

The reason I have not installed the new hub is that I have done extensive online reviews of the 2nd-Gen hub and operating system and have yet to find an “upgraded” user or tech reviewer that was satisfied – most were infuriated at the new system.

Now, I realize that some people are frustrated by the mechanics of a roll of toilet paper, and play hell resetting their clocks to daylight saving time, but most IRIS users are tech-savvy, or else they wouldn’t have bought the IRIS system to start with.

Really, I do not want to hear a bunch of fluff about “enhanced capabilities” and “customer satisfaction” especially since all indications are that 2nd-Gen IRIS has LOST functionality, and customer complaints are being ignored.

Let me pose some reasons for this fiasco: (1) money — Lowe’s didn’t want to pay the renewal license fees for the current system. (2) See (1).

So, I suggest that Lowe’s pony up the license fee and back off the June 30 deadline until ALL the kinks are ironed-out of 2nd-Gen.

Lowe’s Iris Gen 2 had so much potential. I migrated with a little more planning than you about two months ago. I felt let down by the Gen 2 platform for its lack of stability, inability to pair devices, and the change(failure to support) of core features. I don’t regret the change for a minute and have found a new love for open platforms with support for IFTTT, Amazon Echo, and my Sonos. Best of luck with your migration. You won’t regret it.

I have around 55 devices and even for that SmartThings would be an expensive transition. I’m also frustrated about the closed system. For the moment if my V2 move doesn’t go well I might buy a SmartThings hub and buy a few devices here and there.

What are a few of the options as far as other systems like iris?

This is some of the most frustrating garbage ever. I am the lead for a pilot program with co-workers to see if we want to roll something like this out to our entire company. It was going great until V2 came along. I told everyone to not upgrade for a while, yet here we are, a month before a forced upgrade happens, and the system is no where near being ready. I would be very interested to see what platform you decided to go with, as we have started looking for alternatives. My hopes are that we move to smart things, but I don’t know if that will happen.

Comment on Openness and the Real Iris API by Brett Hiltbrand https://irisusers.com/openness-and-the-real-iris-api/#comment-42 Sat, 21 May 2016 02:20:02 +0000 http://irisusers.com/?p=224#comment-42 Has anyone looked into, or have any idea as to what it might take to develop a local server instance to control the v1 hubs. Now that they are being unceremoniously axed by Lowe’s, I wonder if we might be able to root them and obtain local control with them.
